LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - October 6, 2016 is Bring Your Bible to School Day.
If you're worried about whether the school, or anti-religious group, may attempt to inhibit your child's ability to bring a Bible to school, the Bring Your Bible to School Day website has a Know Your Rights section, in which you can find answers to frequently asked questions, get an explanation of students' First Amendment Rights and even includes a help line.
School staff members may not be allowed to talk about Christ or teach it in the classroom but students are protected with the right to free speech, meaning they can talk about their faith among each other and even in relevant classroom discussions.
Bringing Jesus back into our schools is a wonderful opportunity to spread the Gospel, save the lost and encourage kids to be powerful in Christ.
This year marks the third year for Bring Your Bible to School Day and Mission Network News has Biblica's CEO Carl Moeller saying: "I'm very excited about this day because it will be a day when literally hundreds of thousands of school children bring their Bible to school and use that time to witness for Jesus and make a statement about the role the Bible has to play in our society.
"It's really going to allow students to express their beliefs and to do it in a way that's respectful and it demonstrates the love of Christ for those around them.
"...[S]tudents will lead the way for the rest of their peers and really provide an example of spiritual boldness, taking a stand for Christ, and having that true positive spirit that comes from being aligned and in love with Jesus Christ."
"...I think it's really important for people to remember for literally the first almost 200 years of our country's existence, even before we were a country, the Bible was the curriculum of education.
"It taught people how to read, it taught people the nature of our laws, it played a role in primary education by giving moral examples of life and examples of courage.
"It is a huge foundation for our nation, and specifically, our nation's education system.
"And yet, as we all know, over the last 50 years, the Bible has been systematically exterminated from public school life and education.
"There still remains the principle of religious liberty that allows our students to bring Bibles for themselves and their religious convictions, and to share those stories and conversations about the Bible with their school friends."
With that in mind, make sure to inform your child of their right to speak and share the Bible outside the classroom, encourage them to spread the faith and remember to pack the Holy book in their bags.
If your child participates in Bring Your Bible to School Day, and shares a wonderful experience, please leave his or her story in the comments below to share with the community.
