LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - When Pope Francis paid Kraków a visit for World Youth Day, he was driven around in Volkswagen Golf cars - each of which is on the auction block.
The three identical navy blue vehicles were used to transport the Pontiff between July 27-31 for World Youth Day events.
The plates read K1 POPE, K2 POPE and K3 POPE.
The Kraków branch of Craitas charity released a statement Tuesday to explain each vehicle is worth 80,000 zlotys ($21,000) and will be sold to the highest bidders in an online auction, which will run until October 9.
Carita Services is a London-based fundraising partner that specializes in silent and live auctions.
The funds raised through the auction will be used to help a shelter for the elderly, disabled people in Poland and to help finance a mobile clinic for Syrians in Lebanon.
Lebanon's native population falls under 5 million people but the country is currently hosting approximately 1.1 million Syrian refugees.
A recent PressTV report revealed over 70 percent of those refugees live below the poverty line.
UNICEF's representative in Lebanon, Tanya Chapuisat, explained: "The findings are a reminder to all of us that a significant share of Syrian households in Lebanon are doing all they can with limited means to keep their children healthy and safe.
"For those who have lived through the violence in Syria and endure hardship in the host country, health care, food, emotional support and education are simply vital."
The proceeds from the auction will be of great assistance to the people Pope Francis has continually advocated for.
The funds will change the lives of the broken, the lonesome, the ill and the innocent. Please pray for an energetic auction with impressive bids.
