LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Paddy Jones is an elderly woman who fell in love with dancing when she was only two-and-a-half-years-old, when she was enrolled in classical dance lessons.
By the time she turned fifteen, Paddy began to experiment with different styles of dance and thoroughly enjoyed them.
When she married at 22-years-old, she left dance behind, as most women of the time left their dreams to focus on their marriage and children.
Paddy and her husband moved to Spain in 2001 but, tragically, her husband passed away two years later of leukemia. The couple never had children and depression threatened to take over her life.
That was when she decided to take flamenco classes at Nico's academy of dance.
When Nico discovered Paddy's passion and inborn talent, they immediately formed a salsa duo, their 40-year-age gap be damned.
A video of Nico dancing as a street performer was released recently, beginning with Nico dancing with people from the gathered crowd.
Paddy, hobbling by with help from a walking stick, says she would like to dance with him next. Keeping up the pretense of not knowing each other, Nico tells her she is too old.
Still, Paddy insists so Nico agrees to dance a "slow Tango."
The couple begins their dance and their audience is shown positioning their phones to record the dance, which they expect to be a sweet gesture for the elderly woman's sake.
Then the dancing duo gets going.
The shocked audience had no idea Paddy is a Guinness World Record holder for the "Oldest Acrobatic Salsa Dancer" - and their faces definitely reveal their astonishment.
Like Paddy's love for dance, the Lord will never stop loving us. We may believe our actions have removed us from his presence but his grace and mercy can be found everywhere - even in an old woman's passionate dance moves!
Jeremiah 29:11 reads: "Yes, I know what plans I have in mind for you, The Lord declares, plans for peace, not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope."
Just as the Lord offered Paddy an opportunity to live her dream, he offers us several opportunities as well.
As Catholics, we need to keep an eye and ear out for God's love. He doesn't want us to live in disaster, but in hope and peace.
Paddy and Nico love to surprise people on the streets with their wonderful performances, just like the Lord loves to offer surprising gifts to us. The next time you feel distant from God, just take a look around the beautiful world he created just for you and find his message of love.
