Last September, Catholic Online's Facebook account was hatefully hacked. The hackers exploited a vulnerability in a third party application to access the account and lock our administrators out. They began to post pornography and other offensive and misleading material to the newsfeed.
Facebook was immediately notified, the content was quickly flagged and access to the webpage was shut down.
Attacks like this are surprisingly common, and once offline many businesses can struggle to regain control of their pages. However, with nearly 2 million followers, we decided to make every effort to restore this page for their benefit.
Thanks to God and the hard work of the Facebook Page Team and Facebook Marketing Solutions, we have finally regained access and control of the page. We would like to especially thank Joe Szalkiewicz, the CEO of Yellow Line Digital, whose assistance was critical to our success. Without his intervention on our behalf, we may not have ever restored this page for you.
We would now like to invite you to 'like' our page and to resume visiting for the latest in Catholic news, information and perspective. We now have video content and other new resources available to you. Catholic Online will be working very hard in the next month to update our Facebook page and get back to normal. Please visit our Catholic Online Facebook page to see what we have in store for you!
