Pope Francis publishes, 'Joy of Love' a letter about faith and the family
FREE Catholic Classes
Today Pope Francis issued 'Amoris Laetitia,' a much anticipated letter in which he talks about issues central to the family including divorce, homosexuality and abortion. However, as usual, the media can be expected to spin his work to fit their agenda, rather than providing accurate reporting.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - Already the media spin doctors are suggesting that Pope Francis thinks it's okay to be gay, divorced, and for the unmarried to live together. However, these hasty --and dangerous conclusions, are from people who have no intention of reading or appreciating Pope Francis' latest work, Amoris Laetitia.
Latin for "The Joy of Love," Amoris Laetitia touches on topics related to the family in the Church.
It was predicted that Pope Francis might attempt to change Church doctrine with respect to issues such as divorce, homosexuality and abortion, although the fact is he cannot actually do so. And of course, he did no such thing in his letter. Instead, Pope Francis upheld the traditional position of the Church on each of these issues, but reminded all Christians that we are still called to love one another.
The letter affirms that the Church's mission is to "promote marriage and the family and to defend them against those who attack them."
He also discussed abortion, calling it "horrendous." "So great is the value of a human life, and so inalienable the right to life of an innocent child growing in the mother's womb, that no alleged right to one's own body can justify a decision to terminate that life," he said.
Pope Francis did affirm that the Church is to show pastoral sensitivity to those who live in irregular situations, referring to people who are divorced or cohabitate. Always practical, he also proposed ways in which married couples can possibly rediscover the value and beauty of marriage and live it more fully.
Catholic Online will provide an in-depth review of Amoris Laetitia, so please check back soon.
