The medieval artifact is believed to be the Holy Grail.

A year after it was stolen, the police finally recovered a wooden relic believed by some to be the Holy Grail. In July 2014, the invaluable medieval relic was stolen during a raid in Weston Under Penyard near Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire. The Nanteos Cup has now been returned to its lawful owners.

MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - An expert police team hunted down the relic, that measures 10cm by 8.5cm. The police have not spoken about how they were able to recover the artifact, but did disclose that the cup was handed to them "on neutral ground" Friday June 19.

"An anonymous source came forward after seeing the Crimewatch appeal which resulted in it being physically handed in," stated a police spokesman. "Some people may class it as the Holy Grail, but that's only speculation."

According to the spokesman, the police were aware that the item was a treasured object and they were happy to have returned the cup to the rightful owners.

According to the investigating officer, Detective Inspector Martyn Barnes, "I would like to thank everyone who helped us with our inquiries and who shared the appeal, which significantly aided us in recovering the cup."

The family who owns the relic offered a Ł1,000 prize for the relic's safe return. The police put up an additional Ł1,000 for its recovery and conviction of the thieves. However, since nobody had been prosecuted, the police will not be paying the reward.

King Arthur and Indiana Jones are among many who sought the Grail. Some believe that it was the cup that Christ drank from during the Last Supper.

In connection with the investigation, a 39 year-old man from Ross-on-Wye was arrested on suspicion of burglary on May 6. The police however decided to commit no further steps against the man.
