MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - "There are cases in which separation is inevitable. Sometimes, it can even be morally necessary, when it's about shielding the weaker spouse or young children from the more serious wounds caused by intimidation and violence, humiliation and exploitation," Pope Francis said during his weekly general audience message ahead of the highly celebrated World Meeting of the Family this coming September.
Pope Francis is well-known for this lighter take on same sex marriages, advances in social media and several issues that bring him a fair share of criticism and praises.
The Pope addresses the different situations of the family where such "irregular situations" can bring danger to one member or more. His holiness would like people to see how best to help during these situations, instead of continuously patronizing the image of a whole family.
"How to accompany them so that the child does not become daddy or mummy's hostage," the Pope further explained.
Family and divorce issues will be most likely addressed in the upcoming gathering of bishops from around the world, the synod this coming September. The Pope vocally shared his intentions of helping reconcile the Catholic thinking with the present situation of believers in the 21st century.
A similar synod was held last year dealing with the issues of language heralding, as well as issues about the gay community and treatment of divorced Catholics. As September draws near, several issues revolving the family, as well as the issues surrounding them, are expected to be addressed in the weekly general audiences with the Pope.
