We ask you, urgently: don't scroll past this

Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Catholic Online) - After a brief deadlock on two of the charges against Gosnell, the jury returned Monday afternoon with their verdict.

Four counts, Murder, first degree - GUILTY 3 of 4

Gosnell now faces the possibility of the death penalty for the murder charges.

Regardless of the sentence, which will come later, Gosnell will not likely face death because of his advanced age and the slow pace of executions in the state. Regardless, Gosnell will now face the full force of justice for his most heinous crimes as he spends the remainder of his life in prison.

The Gosnell trial now opens discussion to the very real likelihood that there currently exists hundreds of other abortion mills across the nation, many of them flaunting basic rules and regulations much as Gosnell did in his, and all of the "clinics" guilty of murder.

At least one benefit is emerging from the Gosnell trial. National attention is once again focused on the topic of life and the right of all children to live without the threat of death, no matter what their stage of personal development happens to be.

State legislatures across the nation are debating bills designed to protect life at earlier and earlier periods following conception, as well as improved safety measures for mothers.

Tragically, the Gosnell verdict is only a start to a much longer, but hopefully victorious struggle.
