Little girl looking Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you. Help Now >

The Scandal of Christianity

The message of today's video is a scandalous one for many of our times. According to modern thinking, a "God" that is acceptable is one that doesn't interfere with our affairs. God is "allowed" to work perhaps as a far away creator, or in the world of thoughts and ideas, or even as a source of morals and right living. The belief, however, that He became one of us, that He lived as we do, that He suffered as we do, is unacceptable.

P class=MsoNormal>LOS ANGELES, CA. (Catholic Online) - That, I think, is the beauty of this video and the greatest "scandal" of Christianity. Christ, the God of the universe, became small for us so that we might not be afraid of him and learn rather to trust in his love. He was a baby once; he grew up in a small town; he had a mom and a dad, friends and neighbors. "He worked with human hands, He thought with a human mind, acted by human choice and loved with a human heart. (Gaudium et Spes 22)".

And still today, Christ continues to become small for us. He understands what human life is all about, he knows all to well the ups and downs that day-to-day existence can offer us. Nothing, absolutely nothing, which is authentically human is foreign to him.

For this reason, we shouldn't be surprised to see the people in the video that believe in God and believe too in a young Jewish man called Jesus that grew up in their hometown and was like them in many ways. They know that somehow, the two are one and the same, fully man and fully God. This is their faith and this is their joy. This Christmas, we are invited to discover the same.
