MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - In their statement, Subway expressed they are "very concerned" about the raid, believing it "is related to a prior investigation" of an ex-employee of the Jared Foundation, which was founded by Fogle to raise awareness about childhood obesity.
The restaurant did not directly state if the employee in question was former foundation executive Russell Taylor.
By late afternoon, Subway deleted, from its website, all references to Fogle and released another statement, saying that the two parties "have mutually agreed to suspend their relationship due to the current investigation."
"Jared continues to cooperate with authorities and he expects no actions to be forthcoming," stated the company. "Both Jared and Subway agree that this was the appropriate step to take."
Last May, a criminal complaint was charged against Taylor, 43, with seven counts of production of child pornography and one count of possession of child pornography. Fogle, 37, said in a previous statement that he was cutting all his ties with Taylor.
According to attorney Ron Elberger, "Jared has been cooperating, and continues to cooperate, with law enforcement in their investigation of unspecified charges, and looks forward to its conclusion."
Subway's commercials featuring Fogle's story weight loss was essential in creating the sandwich chain's image as a healthy place to eat.
Federal investigators claim to have found a collection of sexually explicit photos and videos during the search of Taylor's home earlier this spring. Allegedly, Taylor owned more than 400 videos of child pornography on computers and storage media recovered from Taylor's Indianapolis residence.
Prosecutors "are moving forward" with the case against Taylor according to Tim Horty, a spokesman for the U.S. attorney's office in Indianapolis.
