Boeing spent 10 years developing the interior with comfort in mind.

According to Boeing a new age in air travel is about to begin. Boeing's 787 Dreamliner will take to the skies over Japan by end of this month. Boeing expects the aircraft to set a new high standard for aviation worldwide.

LOS ANGELES, CA (Catholic Online) - What makes the Dreamliner so unique is that it can fly faster and farther than other comparable airliners while providing greater fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.

The first Dreamliner in service belongs to  Japan's All Nippon Airlines. The plane was delivered on September 26 at a special ceremony at Boeing's Washington facility.

All Nipon Airlines plans to use the aircraft for transoceanic flights. The first transoceanic passenger flight will be from Japan to Taiwan. Later, the aircraft will be crossing the Pacific.

The Dreamliner is made mostly of composite materials instead of aluminum. Inside the plane all travelers will have larger windows that darken at the touch of a button. They will also have a wider variety of entertainment in flight, and higher humidity which experts say will prevent passengers from suffering headaches and dry eyes, traditional discomforts on long flights.

Blake Emery, a psychologist who directed the research team for the planes said that Boeing spent approximately 10 years gathering all the information they needed to come up with a new cabin design.

He said, "this will set a new bar for passenger experience. It marks a turning point for air travel."
Emery mentioned larger drop down overhead luggage bins and what Boeing calls "blue sky lighting" instead of the typical white fluorescent lights. The lighting features will also be available for all 747 jumbo jets and the smaller 737 airliners.

The Dreamliner also has a wider cabin which carriers can fill with wider seats and greater leg room. The airplane has two aisles in the main cabin.

All Nippon Airlines says that it has ordered its Dreamliners with wider seats in business class that can recline into beds, touch panel LCD screens for movies, videos, and gaming, and bathrooms that include bidets.

The Dreamliner appears destined for legend because of its capability to offer more economical travel to passengers in greater comfort than ever before. However the amount of comfort each passenger will enjoy depends on the airlines themselves and how they choose to lay out the aircraft. Passengers can only hope that airlines will keep true to the Dreamliner's intent and allow everyone to enjoy the extra space instead of adding extra seats.

Americans (who don't want to travel to Japan for the privilege) should have their first opportunity to fly in the aircraft sometime in 2012 when United Airlines is expected to take delivery of their aircraft.
