May this Lent be one of praise, peace-filled reflection.

As today is Ash Wednesday, it seems only fitting to remember the man who asked Jesus, 'What good thing must I do to gain Eternal Life?' Like the man who asked the question, isn't it easy for us to think thatthe way to Jesus and Eternal Life is through good works?

But consider this Scripture:

'Just then a man came up to Jesus and asked, "Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?"  "Why do you ask me about what is good?" Jesus replied. "There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.'  Matthew 19:16-17

He is there for all who seek him in earnest, and ever present to us through the mighty power of the Holy Spirit. There is nothing you or I can ever do to earn the love of God, our Heavenly Father. It is His grace alone that He generously dispenses for our benefit. He simply asks us to do what He told Moses in the 10 Commandments. I don't know about you, but I find great comfort in that.

Perhaps because I am an RN by background and used to having written policies to guide nursing practice, I find solace in knowing that God's Way has been clearly established for all of humanity in 10 easy to understand laws. I also revel in knowing that the field of our labor is level; that according to Scripture, every soul has the same opportunity to get into heaven. It all depends on one's beliefs, how we live our life, and most of all, God's outpouring of grace to save us from our sins.

In Lent, we are reminded that we all sin at times, but Jesus came to atone for our sins, great and small, and those of humanity. What relief it is to know that in Jesus Christ, there is no condemnation! For according to Romans 8:1-2:

'Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, 2 because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.'

In as much as we as believing Christians are free from condemnation per this Biblical verse, we have great reason to celebrate! This truly is Good News!

May this Lent be one of praise, peace-filled reflection, and uplifting gratitude to Jesus for all of His mighty blessings in your life! May it also be a special time for you where you are able to experience the presence of God in a more personal way. Whether you decide to fast or give up something or do something for others, may this Lent be a life-changing time for you and your loved ones!

Please Give this Lent, help feed the hungry!

We ask you, humbly: don't scroll away.
