Dear readers, Catholic Online was de-platformed by Shopify for our pro-life beliefs. They shut down our Catholic Online, Catholic Online School, Prayer Candles, and Catholic Online Learning Resources essential faith tools serving over 1.4 million students and millions of families worldwide. Our founders, now in their 70's, just gave their entire life savings to protect this mission. But fewer than 2% of readers donate. If everyone gave just $5, the cost of a coffee, we could rebuild stronger and keep Catholic education free for all. Stand with us in faith. Thank you.Help Now >

MOORESVILLE, N.C. - We've all heard or read the Christmas story from the gospels for most of our lives. It's a beautiful story, but have you looked at it in a deeper way which reveals some more hidden meanings? The thought of our Omnipotent God, manifesting himself in Jesus Christ as a human, is quite revealing about how connected God is to us. The creator becoming his creation; we have to look at why?? For this we can only relate in how parents are co-creators with God in the life of our children. Parents will do anything for their children. Parents will make any sacrifice, even exchanging their life for the life of their children. Personally, I know I would take a bullet for my kids any time.
Next, let's look at how God introduced himself as a Human. He was born in a stable. God Eternal, the source of all things was born in a place where animals were kept. He was also laid in a manger - an eating trough for animals. Talk about humility. All of these things, which in our worldly terms would be an embarrassment to us, are done with purpose. God is showing his willingness to be humbled as an example to us of how we are to live - in humility. Personally I do like the relation between how Jesus Christ was laid in a manager, and how we now partake in consuming His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Blessed Sacrament. Everything has some meaning for us to learn from.
The last picture I want to place in your head (Let's all go Ignatius-like and place ourselves in the following scene as a participant); The angel coming to the shepherds and announcing the birth of our Lord, then the as the shepherds traversed as quickly as possible to the stable to see the King of Kings; what must have gone through their heads? When they finally approached the stable, slowing their gait, removing their head coverings, falling down on their knees and laying prostrate before Our Lord God, the Baby Jesus; what were they feeling? There Jesus was, laying there as the helpless baby he was. This is Our Savior - not coming to us in majesty, but in the simple squander of the animal shed. Oh how God uses what man considers foolish in His own way, for His purpose and His glorification. He just has to confound the wise and prideful. Jesus came to us all in contradiction, but as a beautiful example!
