LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - KIMT-TV reporter Sallet was stationed outside Sterling State Bank in Rochester, which had been the victim of a robbery less than 24-hours beforehand.
Video of the interrupted broadcast shows Sallet's response to the robber's return to the scene of the crime.A bank employee can be seen running toward Sallet as the broadcast goes live, then pointed off-camera and is heard saying, "That's the bad guy right there."
"What?" Sallet responded. "Oh, that's the robber. Uhhhh, this is live TV folks, that's the robber. Just went by ... according to a bank employee. So I gotta go here and call 911. I'll talk to you later."
Sallet steps from the camera's view and the news station returned to anchor Tyler Mickelson, who said, "I can assure you that was not set up. Now Adam Sallet is now on scene investigating. That was an employee of the bank that came out from Sterling Bank in Rochestor."The next day PostBulletin reported the Minnesota State Patrol located the suspect's vehicle and arrested him at gunpoint without incident.
Police Captain John Sherwin said the suspect showed the teller a note describing he was armed and wanted money. After acquiring an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect left but returned the next day for unknown reasons.
When the robbery took place, two bank employees were present. Sherwin explained how the pair "called their boss, who drove there, then he called us. Obviously time is of the essence in these investigations."
Why the employees did not immediately call 911 was not disclosed.
