MUNTINLUPA, PHILIPPINES (Catholic Online) - The feature-length documentary has been in production for two years and will include interviews with Gosnell, who was convicted of first-degree murder for the gruesome crimes that took place in his Women's Medical Society clinic in Philadelphia.
Aside from interviews with Gosnell, the film also features interviews with jurors, police and victims. There are also interviews with Gosnell's neighbors and patients who are convinced he is innocent.
Gosnell's voice and personal defense arguments will be included throughout the film. Altrogge recalls that a year ago they considered releasing the film despite the exclusion of Gosnell's version of the story but decided to ask Gosnell first. The writer-director didn't expect Gosnell would actually write back to or express an interest in the project but Gosnell was on board.
Atrogge told The Blaze, "We were about to release the film and then we get a letter from Gosnell that says, 'I'm interested in talking to you guys.'"
Altrogge and Brown held off the film's release and secured Gosnell's permission to conduct interviews.
Some were curious as to why the doctor would want to talk about this highly-publicized crime. Altrogge explained that Gosnell wanted to tell his side of the story since he strongly believes he is innocent of any crime.
The goal of 3801 Lancaster: American Tragedy is to explore Gosnell's life from the time he was a well-known doctor to his current status as a criminal behind bars after being convicted for killing babies.
The documentary will be shown on November 10 via Tugg, a crowdsourcing web platform that provides assistance to people who want to bring films to theaters, schools, and other venues. The end goal is to have the documentary showing in 100 cinemas.
