HOUSTON,TX (University of St. Thomas) - The First U.S. Conference of the Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas will be held Oct. 17-19 at the Crown Plaza Hotel and University of St. Thomas Houston. The conference is co-sponsored by the Center for Thomistic Studies and the John Paul II Forum.

The conference features a series of lectures and presentations ranging in topic from humanity and gender to natural law to virtue and passions.

The Center for Thomistic Studies and the John Paul II Forum have invited several preeminent scholars, including the Rev. Lawrence Dewan, O.P., professor of philosophy at Dominican University College, Honorable Professor Rocco Buttiglione, president of Italy's Unione di Centro party, the Most Rev. Marcelo Sanchez Sorondo, Bishop Vescovia and current Chancellor of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences, to present on many topics.

In addition to the lectures, the conference will host a luncheon with an address by His Eminence Francis Cardinal George, O.M.I., Archbishop of Chicago and a banquet with an address by Dr. Russell Hittinger, William K. Warren Professor of Catholic Studies, University of Tulsa. His Eminence Daniel Cardinal DiNardo will celebrate the Mass daily.

"It is particularly appropriate that the theme of our conference, "Thomas Aquinas: Teacher of Humanity," should be a title bestowed on the Angelic Doctor by John Paul II, the date of whose canonization has just been announced. We are delighted that, instead of us going to Rome for the Pontifical Academy conference, that Rome is coming to us!"

Registration is $125, with a special student price of $25. The luncheon is free for registrants and $75 for non-registrants. The banquet is $75 for registrants and $100 for non-registrants.
