Dr. Christopher P. Evans has been appointed as vice president of academic affairs.

Houston (Nov. 8, 2018) - Evans recently served as Dean of Arts and Sciences. After receiving his Ph.D. in Historical Theology from Saint Louis University, Evans joined UST in fall 2007, where he taught full time in the Theology Department. In 2011, he began his administrative career as the department chair, an experience that lead to his appointment as the Dean of Arts and Science in 2016.

As the new VPAA, Evans offers a strong understanding of, and alignment with, the identity and mission of UST as well as the experience and courage to navigate the challenges facing Catholic higher education and the opportunities for innovation.

"Dr. Evan's experience and talents will serve us well as we move toward tomorrow," Dr. Richard Ludwick, UST President, said. "We are a community of great faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends.  Together, we will realize UST's extraordinary potential."

Evans has many publications that made original contributions particularly in the area of early-scholastic Christology. His recent publication includes an edited volume, Victorine Christology (Brepols, 2018) and a book, Simon of Tournai, On the Incarnation of Christ (PIMS, 2017).

In his new role as VPAA, Evans seeks to perpetuate the educational values that he had as the Dean of Arts & Sciences, namely, to "bestow upon students the most useful form of knowledge, the discipline of the mind to complement a comprehensive view of the human condition and of the moral, social and political opportunities and problems that confront our world now and in the future."

The University of St. Thomas is Houston's only Catholic university with strong liberal arts programs and with excellent professional and pre-professional degrees. He and his wife Elizabeth live in Sugar Land with their four children.
