Vecchio Testamento
La parola "testamento", ebraico Berith, diatheke greco, significa in primo luogo l'alleanza che Dio è entrato in prima con Abramo, poi con il popolo di Israele. I Profeti erano a conoscenza di un nuovo patto per il quale quella conclusa sul Monte Sinai dovrebbe dare via. Pertanto Cristo durante l'Ultima Cena parla del sangue del nuovo testamento.
