St. Theodosius the Cenobiarch
Died: 529
Abbot and founder. Born at Garissus, Cappadocia (modern Turkey), in 423, he undertook a pilgrimage to Jerusalem, and after meeting with the famed St. Simeon Stylites, he entered a monastery. Later, he was named the head of a church between Jerusalem and Bethlehem, but departed to live as a hermit near the Dead Sea. As he attracted a large number of followers, Theodosius established a monastery which was divided among the various nationalities of the monks (Greek, Armenian, etc.), each with their own church. Appointed by the patriarch of Jerusalem to the post of visitor to all the cenobitical communities of Palestine, he used his influence as cenobiarch to oppose the spread of the heretical doctrines of Eutychianism, displaying such zeal in his preaching that Emperor Anastasius I (r. 491-518), who was sympathetic to the Eutychians, exiled him. Recalled by Emperor Justin soon after Anastasius' death, Theodosius spent his last years in poor health.

Dear Saint Theodosius, Today is your Feast Day so I guess a Happy Feast Day wish for you is in order here ! You are known for your work with the sick, elderly, and the mentally impaired and for your austere dicipline of life. You must have been doing a good job for the Good Lord to let you live to about 105 !!! May we all learn from you to pray, work, and to be one with God by loving HIM and loving and serving others. May we especially work toward bringing an END TO ABORTION. I ask, St Theodosius, for your prayers to join mine each morning while I pray with my "rosary of the unborn" I got from Holy Love Ministries. As you know the Walk for Life in Washington, D.C. is coming up on January 22 and I am especially in prayer that THIS year will answer this long-time prayer of mine and of many others. St. Theodosius, please intercede for us sinners, so that the struggle to keep holy in the face of all temptations, illness, anxiety, and remember that God does loves us, and Jesus is waiting for us to just ask for his Mercy. i just learned about the Jesus Prayer & watched a DVD about monks & monasteries.

St. Theodosius, I am happy to read of your holy and saintly life. Through the merits of your life lived for God, and now in the company of saints in Heaven, pray for us poor sinners. Help us to amend our sinful ways, our pride, our impatience and our feelings of self-righteousness. Mother Mary pray for us. Amen
Dear St. Theodosius the Cenobiarch, you led an austere life of prayer and self-denial. And you were active in works of mercy. I notice that together with your companions you treated the sick, elderly and mentally impaired. I recommend to your loving intercession all aged, bedridden persons and young children who are mentally impaired. Intercede for them on your feast-day. May the Holy Sacrament of the Sick be made available to the lonely, old persons. Also, that they receive proper nursing care. Never let them be abandoned by relatives. Dear Saint of extraordinary holiness, pray especially for children born with fragile X. Give them a permanent cure for epileptic fits, speech delays, and all other developmental delays. Look upon these vulnerable children with compassion and mercy and intercede to Jesus for them. Amen.
