St. Edmund Rich
Patron of Abingdon, Oxfordshire; Roman Catholic Diocese of Portsmouth; St Edmund's College, Cambridge
1175 - 1240
Archbishop of Canterbury England, who battled for discipline and justice, also called Edmund of Abingdon. Born in Abingdon, on November 30, 1180. he studied at Oxford, England, and in Paris, France. He taught art and mathematics at Oxford and was ordained. He spent eight years teaching theology and became Canon and treasurer of Salisbury Cathedral. An eloquent speaker, Edmund preached a crusade for Pope Gregory IX and was named archbishop of Canterbury. He became an advisor to King Henry III and presided in 1237 at Henry’s ratification of the Great Charter. When Cardinal Olt became a papal legate with the patronage of King Henry, Edmund protested. A long-lasting feud between Edmund, the king, and his legate led him to resigning his see in 1240. He went to Pontigny, France, where he became a Cistercian. He died at Soissons, on November 16. Edmund was canonized in 1246 or 1247. A hall in Oxford bears his name.

St. Edmund's feast day is Nov. 16th.
With the love you have for the followers of Christ, pray for us on earth so that our effort can never be in vain..
Dear St. Edmund Rich,
Please do pray for me & my family.
Praise be Jesus our Lord & King. This is my favourite day of the liturgical year. So happy Christie for your Parish & praying w you for Fragile x. Usually there is more info, but at times we must rely not so much on our ability to know, but in our ability to join with these Saints and ask for grace to serve Christ & His Bride. I have to say I have grown personally so much because of all the work this site has blessed us with. Not to mention what the communion of saints has graciously ministered to me unawares. Praise Christ from whom every blessing comes. Bless you all, my brothers & sisters in the Catholic Faith.
Today, 20th Novemeber, we celebrated the feast of Christ the King and 30 children in our parish received their First Holy Communion. Praise Christ our King. Praise the Lord God of Hosts. Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, give us a desire to please You, thank You and glorify You in our daily lives. St Edmund Rich pray for us to be scanctified. For God has called us to sanctity. Help us to overcome frustration and fear, for these feelings only stunt our spiritual growth. Give me an answer to my prayer for the healing all children born with the terrible affliction of Fragile X. Grant me a response to my many requests. I praise God for the success of my work. Help me to continue to work for the greater good of family, school and community. Amen
There was not much personal info about St. Edmund Rich. Wish there were more personal information about this saint, such as his prayer life or his sufferings or the like.. Thank you catholic.org for this information. God Bless you
Inspiring! Thank you. I just spent a frustrating last 15 minutes of Adoration because of other person's complete irreverance/loud noise in parish Adoration Chapel. You try telling them and it is useless. I was just thinking of going to another Church. How interesting this happens on St. Edmund Rich's Feast Day. Thank you. I feel much better.
i would like to learn more about this father of the church. thank you for your inspirational emails, which i read daily.
St. Edmund Rich, bless the people of 'Catholic Online, making it possible for this web-sit. for all people to give praise to our Heavenly Father, who watches over us daily, Amen.
