St. Eugene de Mazenod
Patron saint of dysfunctional families
1782 - 1861
Canonized By: Pope John Paul II
Eugene de Mazenod was born on August 1, 1782, at Aix-en-Provence in France. Early in life he experienced the upheaval of the French Revolution. None the less, he entered the seminary, and following ordination he returned to labor in Aix-en-Provence. That area had suffered greatly during the Revolution and was not really a safe place for a priest. Eugene directed his ministry toward the poorest of the poor. Others joined his labors, and became the nucleus of a religious community, the Missionaries of Provence. Later Eugene was named Bishop of Marseille. There he built churches, founded parishes, cared for his priests, and developed catechetics for the young. Later he founded the Oblates of Mary Immaculate, and in 1841 the Oblates sailed for missions in five continents. Pius XI said, "the Oblates are the specialists of difficult missions." After a life dedicated to spreading the Good News, Eugene died on May 21, 1861. He was beatified by Pope Paul VI in 1975. His feast day is May 21.

My family is extremely in trouble, I ask you all and St Eugune to help us in this time of need.Amen
A
My family is lost and I wish we to be found by you. Help us each day to not be selfish and mean to one another. Help me respect myself more so my children will be reminded that they need to honor their parents, but above all the Lord
St. Eugene de Mazenod, please pray for us to remain deep rooted in our faith and face the trials and tribulations of our daily life with forbearance and fortitude.
Saint Eugene, please pray for me and my daughter today, on your feast day. I am a single mother in need of money today to pay 2 mos rent to avoid eviction, pay medical expenses and get our car back (repossessed). I also need help in getting the full time job I interviewed for last month. My daughter has a brain injury and constant pain. I have been out of work for 9 mos. and looking. Medical expenses and time have caused this crisis. Please intercede and pray for us to be able to pay everything immediately and be at peace to heal and move forward. Thank you and May God Bless everyone who prays for your intercession, and their families. Thank you. Amen.
I was introduced to the Oblates from a Fr. Joseph Milford who spent many, many years in the Philippines and then in his later years came back to south Florida where I met him as I was the mail lady for the rectory. I was a fallen-away Catholic and he must have prayed me back into the church because ever since I met him personally, it was like I fell in love with God again. He gave me a prayer card of Blessed Eugene DeMazenod and started to pray the novena along with our rosary in honor of Fr. Milford and today I find that it is Fr. Mazenod's feast day!

even though I knew that Eugene de Mazinod was the founder of the OMIs I never knew of his personal life and his interest in dysfunctional families. I was amazed when in Lourdes this year of all the martyrs that died following the lifestyle of St. eugene. Bless us all with his courage and compassion .
It's always interesting to find out something of founder of religious communities, etc.
Are the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 'San Fernando and Pacoima the same ones
founded by him?
An interesting biography; thank you.
