St. Joan de Lestonnac
Patron of abuse victims, people rejected by religious orders, widows
1556 - 1640
St. Joan de Lestonnac was born in Bordeaux, France, in 1556. She married at the age of seventeen. The happy marriage produced four children, but her husband died suddenly in 1597. After her children were raised, she entered the Cistercian monastery at Toulouse. Joan was forced to leave the Cistercians when she became afflicted with poor health. She returned to Bordeaux with the idea of forming a new congregation, and several young girls joined her as novices. They ministered to victims of a plague that struck Bordeaux, and they were determined to counteract the evils of heresy promulgated by Calvinism. Thus was formed the Congregation of the Religious of Notre Dame of Bordeaux. In 1608, Joan and her companions received the religious habit from the Archbishop of Bordeaux. Joan was elected superior in 1610, and many miracles occurred at her tomb. She was canonized in 1949 by Pope Pius XII. Her feast day is February 2.

St. Joan de Lestonac, please continue to pray for me to remain firm in my allegiance towards God.
Saint Joan,please pray for us!
Please pray for Jacob that he finds peace and the right path, for his mother that the doctors can slow the progression of her disease and for all cancer patients that we deal with our disease with grace and dignity. Thank you.
St.Joan de Lestonnac great saint please pray for me and my family
God Bless us all
Amen
Almost the same as the Sisters of Notre Dame de Numer. Same idea, different century.
Dear St. Joan de Lestonnac, Your indomitable courage and determination astounds me. Please do pray for me.
This is a great story. I really learnt a lot. Most especially, turning ur ugly situations to fulfilling your God's call on this earth. I saw the determination to be happy irrespective of the death of her loved ones. She never allowed the storms to overwhelm her but rather turned her situation for the glory of God and for the work of kingdom. This is an eye opener to many of us catholics that a good Christian life is never devoid of troubles and it is through turbulent circumstances in ones life that produces great destiny and fulfillment of one's call. Oh God, give us the spirit to know when you are calling us to serve you. Amen
When I was little I remember my mother speaking of her school in Cuba called "Lestonnac." Now i realize it was probably an all girls Catholic school named after this saint whose very vocation was to teach girls! Mystery solved!
Today is February 2, The Presentation of the Lord. It is a Feast Day in the Church.
Dear St. Joan de Lestonnac, I'd like to think of you as the patron saint of all women, for in your life you bore children, raised them, had happiness with your husband. More interesting is the dramatic turn you took in your life in the face of adversity. That response to God's calling bestowed you with amazing graces and achievements in the name of the glory of God. Thank you for your example. May all women emulate you and never sit at home, mourning and groaning about difficulties. We need to move and be moved by the Holy Spirit who will guide us with his wonderful gifts. Thank you dear saint.
Today is the feast of the Presentation of Our Infant Jesus at the temple in Jerusalem by St. Joseph and Mary. Dear sweet Jesus, you made that trip in your infancy to meet Simeon and Anna the prophets who were awaiting you coming, with prayer and patience. The reward was mighty. They recognised and adored you. Simeon was ready to die after seeing your holy face. On this occasion, we have candles blessed in church. We see Christ as the Light of the world. Thank you dear Jesus for coming to us as a vulnerable, little baby. Amen
I really was interested in the story. It tells of a woman who gave her life to her family then
when her job is finish she put 100% into committing herself to the LORD. Whenever she
run into a problem she finds a different solution instead of giving up or quit or dwell in
self-pity. I love that in a person especially a woman who was ahead of her time!
I did not notice it, even if I did I knew what it meant. Just be happy we can read about our saints and learn from them. Some people can't even read. I read about each one every day. Makes me feel good and proud to be Catholic.
i, too, read the wikipedia version. there are some discrepancies, as he says, but the main outline of each account is the same. i don't know why the previous writer, mr. groet, is riled up. sometimes people become concerned about accuracy when you don't proofread your copy. "hasband?" really? even so, these daily emails are truly inspirational. they also make me feel more catholic and more proud of my tradition.
L.S.
Today was the first time I saw the name and histoty of St J. de Lestonnac, but the question is : what is her real story?
Because on Wikipedia I saw an other story about her .
