St. Buonfiglio Monaldo

St. Buonfiglio Monaldo

Feastday: February 12

He was one of seven Florentines who had joined the Confraternity of the Blessed Virgin (the Laudesi) in a particularly lax period in the city's history and who were inspired by a vision on the feast of the Assumption to take up a life of solitude and prayer. After nearly fifteen years of austerity at a hermitage on Monte Senario he took the name in 1240 of Servants of Mary, or Servites. Six were ordained, developed as mendicant friars under the direction of James of Poggibonsi and Bishop Ardingo of Florence and established many houses and foreign missions. Br. Bounfiglio served as its first prikor general from 1240 to 1256 and died on Jan 1. St. John Bounagiunta succeded him, St. Bartholomew Amidei (Br. Hugh) established the order in Paris and St. Ricovero Ugoccione (Br. Sostenesw) in lGermany. SS. Benedict dell'Antella (Br. Manettus) were ordained; St. Alexis Falconieri became a lay brother and was the only one to live to see the order approved by Pope Benedict XI in 1304. The "Seven Holy Founders" of the Servites were canonized in 1887 by Pope Leo XIII. His feastday is Feb. 12.

    Dear Saint,

Kindly pray for the Church so that the Holy Spirit lead her in the best of her spirit to overcome the current situation and select a Holy and Virtuous Cardinal as the next Pope to lead the Church in the direction of the teachings of Christ and to wage a holy war against the so called liberals who are trying to destroy the Church's teachings by promoting Abortion, Contraception, Gay marriage etc. Enable her to be the holy Institution of Christ on Earth. Let her lead all her faithful in Truth to the kingdom of God. Amen.

Please pray for Jacob that he finds peace and the right path, for his mother that the doctors can slow the progression of her disease and for all cancer patients that we deal with our disease with grace and dignity. Thank you.

I just recently found this site as a result of today's chaotic society where materialism, fame and secularism vs, honour, values and love of God is becoming more main street. Saints are my role models and heros.

What is a prikor general? I looked up prikor and it is a proper name of a company in Slovenia. How does that fit in with St. Buonfiglio Monaldo?

Seven founders of the Servites, more than ever before do I see the human and spiritual need for us to have friends who love and live for Christ. When the common bond lives in the hearts of all there will be much the Holy Spirit achieves. Dear saints pray for us to enjoy such holy friendships. Amen

I love to read the stories of the saints, I learn from them so much, and will like to be more and more like them, I pray that they pray with us to bring more saints to God, specially in these times. May God bless you.

A wonderful thought of 'friendship' entered my mind as I read about these dedicated men. Some of the best memories of my life is when me and my friends would unite our efforts to strengthen our efforts to achieve a large and challenging goal. God Bless you all.
