Martyr of Rome, with Concordia and other companions, he is a controversial figure who censured Pope St. Callistus I. Hippolytus was slain in Sardinia where he had been exiled for being elected as an antipope, the first in the history of the Church. He was reconciled to the Church before his martyrdom. His writings were important, including A Refutation of All Heresies, Song of Songs, and The Apostolic Tradition.

St. Hippolytus pray for us. Happy feast day. Bless all mothers who have just conceived and are hoping to bring to birth a healthy baby. Protect and preserve them throughout the pregnancy. Give good health of mind and body to both mother and baby-to-be born. Amen.

As I recall it, he was not "exiled" for being an antipope but was sent to the salt mines in Sardinia for being a Christian. The pope (? Callistus) was also sent to the same place. They both died of exposure and exhaustion.
