St. Philip

St. Philip

Feastday: May 3

Philip was born in Bethsaida, Galilee. He may have been a disciple of John the Baptist and is mentioned as one of the Apostles in the lists of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and in Acts. Aside from the lists, he is mentioned only in John in the New Testament. He was called by Jesus Himself and brought Nathanael to Christ. Philip was present at the miracle of the loaves and fishes, when he engaged in a brief dialogue with the Lord, and was the Apostle approached by the Hellenistic Jews from Bethsaida to introduce them to Jesus. Just before the Passion, Jesus answered Philip's query to show them the Father, but no further mention of Philip is made in the New Testament beyond his listing among the Apostles awaiting the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room. According to tradition he preached in Greece and was crucified upside down at Hierapolis under Emperor Domitian. His feast day is May 3.

St. Philip, please intercede for me and bring these prayers to Jesus. I ask that my brother who shares your name may respond to the Lord's call in his life, as you did, to return to his faith. He has fallen away from God and his faith and is in a dark place. I pray that he may feel the presence of Jesus in his life and turn back to Christ who alone provides us with mercy, peace, forgiveness, and love. St Philip, pray for us!

Good Morning Apostle Philip, today is a very special and blessed day, its Thursday, 3 May 2012 and its your FEAST DAY. Today I will be attending mid morning Mass at St Patrick's cathdral in the splendid city of Melbourne and afterwards I will be enjoying a hearty lunch with my colleague at one of the many fine restaurants Melbourne is famous for. Dinner will be at home with a dear old priest whom I hadn't seen in many years, so I'll be uncorking a rare bottle of red wine to celebrate life, love and our catholic faith.

Precious Apostle, as one of the 12 pillars of our Christian civilization you possess a profound inluence with Jesus. I beg of you for a very special and urgent favour on your FEAST DAY to save my little brother's life from his diabolical addiction to heroin. Timmy is already in HELL, that is, his heroin hell and it is slowly killing our dear old mother with grief. The horror and trauma heroiin causes to families of heorin addicts is indescribable, let alone the addicts themselves. Timmy has developed $200 a day addiction and he only lives for his next heroin hit and nothing else matters at all.

Timmy's life has been reduced to living like a wounded animal in Sydney's public parks and it breaks our hearts when he is frequently bashed by drunk louts for free entertainment, heroin addicts are too weak to defend themselves from such beasts. Timmy is living by the skin of his teeth and death is always looking at him like a vulture eyeing its prey.

Apostle Philip, where there is life there is hope so plead the Risen Lord to snatch Timmy from his heroin HELL and restore him back to life, a heroin free life, and hand him over to the outstretched and waiting arms of his devoted mother. There is no better time to save Timmy than today, your FEAST DAY.

    AMEN
