1880 - 1962
Beatified By: 9 May 2001, Floriana, Malta by Pope John Paul II
Canonized By: 3 June 2007, Vatican City by Pope Benedict XVI
George Preca (in Maltese: ?or? Preca) (12 February 1880 - 26 July 1962) was a Maltese Roman Catholic priest who founded the Society of Christian Doctrine,[a] a society of lay catechists. In Malta, he is affectionately known as "Dun ?or?" and is popularly referred to as the "Second Apostle of Malta", after Saint Paul of Tarsus. The writer Joseph Carmel Chetcuti has claimed that George Preca was a repressed homosexual, who nevertheless led a chaste life. He was canonized on 3 June 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI.

As a member of the Society of Christian doctrine I am sure that this author does not know St. George Preca. He had nothing to say about his virtuous life and how he brought the Maltese people nearer to God, especially the outcasts of society in the beginning of the ninteenth century. I was eleven years old when He died and I can still remember his funeral, definetly that of a very esteemed saint by all classes of society. The members of His Society were in hundreds. Many books are written in Maltese about his life, others were translated mainly in English and Italian.
