St. Jean de Brebeuf

St. Jean de Brebeuf

St. Jean de Brebeuf

Feastday: October 19
Patron of Canada
1593 - 1649

St. Jean de Brebeuf, 1593 - 1649, was a french born Jesuit missionary and martyr of New France who  arrived in America in 1625 to evangelise Native Americans.  He lived among the Huron for over 15 years under difficult  and challenging circumstances. In 1648 the Iroquois  launched a war of extermination against the Huron, their  traditional enemies. Refusing to flee when their Huron  villlage was attacked, Brebeuf and his assistant, Gabriel   Lalemant, were captured the following year and tortured to  death by the Iroquois. Brebeuf was canonised in 1930 with seven other missionaries who are collectively called  the North American martyrs. He is the patron saint of  Canada. His feast day is October 19th.

These saints Father Brebeuf, Lalemand and other who were tortured severely
and killed for their faith are a testament of the catholic faith.

If one is not prepared to die for his/her faith then you do not deserve heaven,

As Christ said: Be prepared to carry your cross!

It is true that in those days in the 17th century, the psychology of living was
different than now, but the principle of believing in Jesus remains the same.

Although the faith during those days was very strong and life was mostly
concentrated on belief systems; today we still have to those same values
    engrained in our souls.

There will come a time when our faith will be tested as Father Brebeuf and
    Lalemand....

the question is.....ARE PREPARED TO ALSO DIE FOR JESUS CHRIST,
ARE YOU WILLING TO TAKE UP YOUR CROSS ALSO..

That is the question... To be willing to die for your faith... this principle then
and now still applies and may happen in the near future...

To be a believer is to be willing to sacrifice one's life to uphold and to NEVER
DENY Jesus Christ.. HE died for you as well as Father Brebeuf and Lalemand.

Will you be willing to die also for your faith??

This is the essence of christianity and faith and reward eventually in heaven....

    Thank you

    Norm

I searched for St. Gabriel Lalemant, and this is all I got! No mention of Gabriel separately, whom I know suffered martyrdom on the day after John. Why aren't the other North American Jesuit Martyrs included, other than the picture on the left sideline?

Response to Jessica Lafond. There is no evidence that I have found that would indicate that Fr. de Brebuef was a pedophile or anything else that would be against Catholic tradition. He was a great man who died in the service of our Lord - would yoiu have the same courage and dedication to suffer as he did? By the way, there are no half-way Catholics. You either are Catholic or you aren't; unfortunately, you do not appear to be one.

I have just finished reading This Widowed Land by Kathleen O'Neal Gear. I was very taken by the courage and love of God by all of the S.J. priests but mostly by Father Jean de Brebeuf. The faith and courage of this man was absolutely astounding. It was obvious that he knew something of his end but continued on with his mission. Such love of God and his son Jesus Christ is most extraordinary. It is seldom that a character in a book, real of imagined, can get to me as much as the portrayal of Fr. de Brebeuf but he is now strongly in my head and heart. He inspired me and somehow made me feel small because I don't think I would ever have the physical or spiritual courage to do the things he did. Bless me Fr. Brebeuf and impart to me some of your strength of love and service to our Lord.

To accuse someone u should have proof. I am not catholic and yes there are many men that have abused, but so have many women. Just cause someone wrote that they think he was does not make it so. If u going to make an accusation then show the proof otherwise refrain from speaking.

I'm tecnically catholic! But I don't believe in jesus the same way as catholic people and jean de brebeuf was a pedophile! I did my own research on him and he was a murderous pedophile!
