Hermit and pilgrim. A physician and canon at Saint-Venance, France, he beheld a vision which prompted him to give all his possessions and wealth to the poor. He lived as a recluse with his mother until he entered a hermitage near Laval, Mayenne. He spent the rest of his life on pilgrimages and residing as a hermit near Savigny and Mantilly. William had a close relationship with nature and was honored by wild animals.
