Benedictine abbess, also listed as Wuifritha. The mother of St. Edith of Wilton by King Edgar (r. 957-975) outside of the bounds of marriage, she retired to the convent of Wilton after Edith's birth, receiving the veil from St. Ethelwald. She became a nun to atone for her actions with the king. She was exemplary as a nun, so much so that she became abbess.
