Doug Kmiec convinced many Catholics to elect President Barack Obama and received an ambassadorship to Malta. He also became a lightning rod in the Catholic community and beyond. I have not heard from him since he resigned his ambassadorship. That is until last weekend. His letter to the President is worthy of note.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is calling for the death of all Jews and the destruction of Israel.  On the Web site, called Alef, Khamenei says the opportunity must not be lost to remove "this corrupting material. It is a "'jurisprudential justification' to kill all the Jews and annihilate Israel, and in that, the Islamic government of Iran must take the helm."
China and Russia have steadfastly refused to join the United Nations in authorizing sanctions against the nation of Syria for its unbridled attacks on civilian populations during its 11-month uprising. As if in response, the Syrian army has stepped up its attacks on opposition fighters in Homs.

Archbishop Timothy Broglio, who leads the Roman Catholic Archdiocese for the Military Services, wrote a letter to be read at all Sunday Masses for U.S. military personnel around the world that said that a regulation issued by the Obama Administration under the new federal health care law was "a blow" to a freedom that U.S. troops have not only fought to defend but for which some have recently died in battle.

Victorious in the Republican presidential caucuses this wekeend, Mitt Romney again turned his attention away from his GOP rivals and more towards President Barack Obama. Romney says that Nevada has had enough of his "kind of help" in fixing its home mortgage crisis and that he failed at bringing down unemployment.
The Senate has strongly approved a bill this week that reiterates the illegality for members of Congress, their staffs and many executive-branch employees to trade stocks and other securities based on inside information learned on the job. The measure was passed largely to restore voters' faith in Congress,
