Palladius became bishop of his native city of Embrun, France. During the five years of his episcopate, he exhibited an extraordinary generosity to the poor and a deep devotion to the Passion of Christ. The prayers of the holy bishop possessed an exceptional efficacy in obtaining whatever he petitioned God for. Many miracles were attributed to his intercession. In his spiritual life he manifested the gift of prophecy and a mystical familiarity with the angels. He successfully defeated the machinations of the devil simply by making the sign of the cross.
