Also called Prix, bishop of Rouen and martyr who became deeply embroiled in the political struggles among the Franks. He was appointed the bishop of the see about 550 and was drawn into the terrible struggle for the throne between the sons of King Clotaire I. Fredegunde, who became the wife of Chilperic, one of the sons of Clotaire, was accused by Praetextatus of murder and unbridled ambition. She retaliated by having him exiled and then assassinated.
