St. Rita
Patron of impossible cases
1381 - 1457
St. Rita was born at Spoleto, Italy in 1381. At an early age, she begged her parents to allow her to enter a convent. Instead they arranged a marriage for her. Rita became a good wife and mother, but her husband was a man of violent temper. In anger he often mistreated his wife. He taught their children his own evil ways.
Rita tried to perform her duties faithfully and to pray and receive the sacraments frequently. After nearly twenty years of marriage, her husband was stabbed by an enemy but before he died, he repented because Rita prayed for him. Shortly afterwards, her two sons died, and Rita was alone in the world. Prayer, fasting, penances of many kinds, and good works filled her days. She was admitted to the convent of the Augustinian nuns at Cascia in Umbria, and began a life of perfect obedience and great charity.
Sister Rita had a great devotion to the Passion of Christ. "Please let me suffer like you, Divine Saviour," she said one day, and suddenly one of the thorns from the crucifix struck her on the forehead. It left a deep wound which did not heal and which caused her much suffering for the rest of her life. She died on May 22, 1457. She is the patroness of impossible cases. Her feast day is May 22.

I was in my mediation training tonight at a local Catholic law school and one of the professors told us about you and offered rose petals that had been pressed and then blessed by the priest. He told us you are the patron saint of impossible things. Well, I am 33 and my relationship with the man I thought I was going to marry just ended. I am heartbroken, both because of the loss of that relationship, and because I have been waiting for so long for God to bless me with a husband and children. This desire seems impossible to me at the moment, so I am praying to you that God will bless me with the husband and children I have always wanted. Thank you, St. Rita.

I pray for my wife. Please lessen her burden and help us to be united and live together as family at the earliest. Help us to overcome all the difficulties with the faith and trust on our Lord Jesus Christ. Enable us to bear all the struggles patiently. Console her of all the problems she faces in bringing up our children. Enlighten her to the will of God and inspire her to be courageous and patient. Grant her peace of mind and joy. Fill her up with the Love of God that she is guided by the Holy Spirit in all her desires and dreams and makes wise and informed decision. Bless her with good health and happiness. Amen.

Dearest St. Rita, happy feast day! Three years ago I became Catholic, and the devout, pious lady who mentored me gave me a saint card of you, St. Rita. This lady knew that my wife and children were not Catholic -- not even Christian.
St. Rita, I saw that as a sign that you chose me to be my patron saint. You are also the patron saint of impossible cases. Please help me to overcome my mental illness, depression, and anxiety. St. Rita, I know that you interceded for me during the two times that I attempted suicide. Thank you for your prayers and for being my patron saint. I don't feel comfortable referring to you as a patroness saint; it sounds sexist to me.
Thank you for everything, dearest St. Rita. I have two little boys just like you had. Please pray for them and for my wife, who is a non-believer. Amen.

Happy feast day, Saint Rita! Please intercede for me that I can be reunited with my husband and 2 kids. I pray that my husband's visa will be approved. I'm so desperate, St. Rita. There's so much pain in my heart because of my separation from my family.

May you interceed on my behalf by granting our autistic son entry into the school of our request and may he gain entry to this school in the next few weeks. It seems impossible as they've told us there are no vacancies this year, please let a vacancy become available for him as he needs to be in a smaller class size to aid his learning.

Please pray that F will respond and open up to me. After a couple of months of total silence, I managed to get him to reply the other day. He said he's constantly thinking of me and misses me, so I gently asked again for us to communicate more. I hoped he would respond but he's once again disappeared. Whenever I mention us talking and making one another laugh he distances himself. But if we are constantly on each other's minds, we need to reconnect, we need to talk... Please Saint Rita this constant up and down of emotions is so draining, it is stealing every ounce of energy and hope from me. Please make this seemingly impossible request become possible. Let us finally have a breakthrough and talk to one another again. And please grant me the beautiful miracle that we may have another chance and he can learn of my unconditional love. I miss him, I miss him... reading his words the other day meant so much, but it rips me apart that he's dismissing me again, when I know deep down he doesn't want this... Help him break through that depression, the wall of pain, please remove all obstacles that stand in our way. Thank you dearest Saint Rita.
