St. Agnes of Montepulciano

St. Agnes of Montepulciano

St. Agnes of Montepulciano

Feastday: April 20
Died: 1317

Nun and foundress in Tuscany. She was born circa 1268 and at the age of nine entered the monastery of Montepulciano, near her home in Gracchiano-Vecchio. Four years later she was commissioned by Pope Nicholas IV to assist in the foundation of a new convent in Procena. At fifteen she became the head of the nuns there. About 1300, the people of Montepulciano built a new convent in order to lure Agnes back to them. She established a convent under the Dominican rule and governed there until her death in 1317. Agnes was noted for her visions. She held the infant Christ in her arms and received Holy Communion from an angel. She experienced levitations and she performed miracles for the faithful of the region. She is still revered in Tuscany.

Dear St. Agnes of Montepulciano. your wonderous encounter with the Infant Jesus coming to rest in your arms and your receiving holy communion from an angel fills me with happiness. I just love your story. I read this just when I was puzzled about my own life, its strife and its low points. Now dear saint what you have experienced, please share with us. Show us that Jesus is near and dear to us. Intercede for us that we may be filled with the Holy Spirit with the coming of Pentecost. Amen

Wonderful article...has uplifted my spirit this day, It goes a long way to remind up that the incomprehensible God can only be comprehended by an incomprehensive comprehension.

After seeing the uncorrupted body of St. Agnes laying in state, intact, after 700 years in an uncontrolled environment, I have come to revere here. She has become my interlocutor to Christ. I am not a Catholic.
