Lenten Message from Catholic Online Founders
Dear Catholic Online member and supporter:
On Ash Wednesday, we begin our Lenten journey of conversion together. During this Holy Season we are called to examine our lives, empty ourselves of our own self-centeredness and seek forgiveness for our failings, even as we look forward to the hope that is given us by the Risen Lord at Easter. Lent is a time for conversion of heart and for reconciliation in our own lives and throughout the world.
This year we shall proceed through Lent with something new. We are helping to launch, for the first time in the history of the United States, a grassroots movement explicitly dedicated to helping Catholic citizens both cultivate their faith AND activate their voice.
In response to the call of the Church, Catholic Online is honored to bring the extraordinary platform of this network and place it at the service of the common good. By helping launch “Your Catholic Voice”, dedicated to the “new evangelization” that Our Holy Father has called for in the Third Christian Millennium, we are a helping to fulfill a part of the missionary task of the lay faithful, to help transform our contemporary culture.
The Mission of the "Your Catholic Voice" movement is to motivate, educate and activate Catholic citizens for political and social participation as a response to their baptismal vocation and the call of our Church to be faithful citizens. This will be done through two efforts.
"CULTIVATE YOUR FAITH"
"Your Catholic Voice Foundation" is dedicated to informing, educating, supporting and serving a new Catholic Action. Its mission is educational, informational and motivational. YCV Foundation has filed an application and received recognition of exemption under Section 501 © 3 of the Internal Revenue Code.
"ACTIVATE YOUR VOICE"
"Your Catholic Voice" is dedicated to activating faithful Catholic citizens for the vital work of political participation. Your Catholic Voice has filed an application and received the Internal revenue Service as a 501 © 4 organization.
As a movement of faithful Catholic citizens we have come together around what we call our Four Pillars of Participation; life, family, freedom and solidarity with the poor and needy. We will be "issue focused", and not beholden to any political party. We choose to involve ourselves in a non-partisan manner while remaining faithful to the practical application of Catholic social teaching. Your Catholic Voice is committed to educating and organizing faithful Catholic citizens to take their vitally important place alongside of other citizens in a great crusade of what our Bishops called "Faithful Citizenship".
Whether it is our unqualified commitment to building a new culture of life by restoring protection to every human life at every age and stage; supporting the effort to establish parental choice in education through School Voucher programs; insisting on a ban on human cloning and the manufacture of human embryos for experimentation (that ALWAYS leads to destruction of human life); defending the primacy of the family or insisting on fulfilling our obligation of solidarity with the poor and promoting a family friendly public policy, "Your Catholic Voice" stands ready and able to work for you and for the Common Good.
As we enter into these forty days of fasting and penance, particularly mindful of world events, let us join our fasting and penance together with the Holy Father for the sake of the Church and the fullness of her mission to a world that is so desperately in need of the One who is the only path to peace.
From our family to yours, may these forty days be a time of deep conversion in which you draw closer to the Lord in the heart of His Church!
