St. Gabriel of St. Magdalen, Blessed Feastday: September 3 1632 Franciscan martyr of Japan. A native of Foncesa, Spain, he was sent as a Franciscan lay brother to Manila, Philippines, in 1612 where he studied medicine. In Japan he ministered to the sick despite persecution. Gabriel was burned alive in Nagasaki, Japan. He was beautified in 1867.
