Feastday: Febuary 16

Elias and four companions, Daniel, Isaias, Jeremy, and Samuel were Egyptians who visited Christians condemned to work in the mines of Cilicia during Maximus' persecution, to comfort them. Apprehended at the gates of Caesarea, Palestine, they were brought before the governor Firmilian, and accused of being Christians. They were all tortured and then beheaded. When Porphyry, a servant of St. Pamphilus, demanded that the bodies be buried, he was tortured and then burned to death when it was found that he was a Christian. Seleucus witnessed his death and applauded his constancy in the face of this terrible death; whereupon he was arrested by the soldiers involved in the execution, brought before the governor, and was beheaded at Firmilian's order. Feast day is February 16.

I am helping my daughter to locate info for a class paper on St. Samuel. This article was helpful but could use more detail like year of birth and death, and more info about his life other that just his visiting of the mines. Also, he was tortured and hung by whom? A brief description of the current events surounding Samuel at that time would really have been helpful.

this article was very helpful to me because it was interesting. i think it is too short though. it was still good. i think it is pretty bad how he gets burned to death.

i am trying to write a school paper i atend xavier highschool. this artivcal is veary vague and had no information on his life before visiting catholics. It was confusing to read new names cept poping up whith no information on who they were. i honestly think that if your going to have a sight whith information you need to have it all there
