Did you know too that St Brigid is also spelt - ST BRIGHID - she was baptised by St Patrick of Ireland.. and was most interested in helping women and female children to learn .. a livelihood..thus the centers of learning she founded.
She was also a mystic and a great healer.

St Brighid also was renown for the introduction of ST Brighids cross.. - weaving a cross out of straw in the effort to win the soul of a pagan chieftain before he died. She did so admirably.. and he was baptised prior to his death...
    A wonderful Christian !

I thought St. Brigid of Ireland was the first to start a monastic type of life for women and founded many religious institutions in Ireland, mainly the one at Kildare which became a great institution of learning and art. Also thought her feast day was February 1st.
