UCMVA announces 2010 Unity Award Recipients

Donnellson, IA (September 7, 2010) - The United Catholic Music & Video Association held the 10th annual UNITY AWARDS in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Saturday, August 28, 2010. The event, produced by Denis Grady and his Franciscan and Friends ministry, was held at the Southside Victory Church in Calgary. Unity Awards founder, and President of Heartbeat Records, Susan Stein, announced a series of "firsts" for this years presentation. It was the "first" time the awards were ever held outside of the United States. It was the "first" time the event followed a two day music conference featuring a number of top Catholic artists and speakers educating and informing participants on various aspects of music, media and ministry. It was also the "first" time the conference and awards were broadcast simultaneously via the world wide web.

The UNITY AWARD event included live performances by musicians representing a variety of musical styles. The show kicked off with Celtic pop/rock band Ceili Rain and also included performances by Tony Melendez, Jerry Aull, Michelle Todd, Chris Bray, Tom Booth, Critical Mass, Brian Flynn, Mashetimoses, Eugenia, Kristi Marie& Stefan Bartos, Denis Grady & The Stone Rejected Band, and Marty Antonni & 7th Heaven.

Awards were presented in 32 categories. Song of the Year Award was presented to Greg Walton (of Nashville, TN) for his song, "Tune of Ignorance" focusing on the theme of social action. Walton was recognized with the top number of awards (5 in all). Other recipients included Matt Maher:Artist of the Year, Ceili Rain:Group of the Year, The Love Movement:International Group of the Year, and Chris Bray:New Artist of the Year. The United Catholic Music and Video Association (UCMVA) was founded in the Jubilee Year 2000 and held the first ever UNITY AWARDS in November of that year. The celebration was created as an opportunity to have Catholic musicians and Catholic video producers join together in an association of unity. The purpose of this association is to support, encourage and promote the development of all forms of Catholic oriented Christian music and video. This includes: Liturgical, Praise and Worship, Contemporary and Instrumental Compositions. Catholic oriented music and video productions have grown and become diversified throughout the years, but their purpose and intention has remained consistent and focused on "Keeping the Faith Alive" and spreading God's message of Unity, Love and Evangelization. As an umbrella organization, the UCMVA ( a 501 C3 non-profit) creates an atmosphere in which artists, producers, arrangers, retail stores, radio stations, concert promoters, dioceses, and parishes can come together and unify their efforts in order to benefit the organization as a whole.

The next Unity Award presentation will be held in San Antonio, TX in Fall, 2011.
