5th Annual Scarecrow Fest and Bargain Boulevard Flea Market
Sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, Good Shepherd Council 5573 & Ladies Auxiliary
Saturday, September 25, 2010 - 9:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M., Knights Clubhouse, northwest corner of St. Mary Immaculate

Plainfield, IL (September 7, 2010) - Fred Kunst, Grand Knight, Knights of Columbus (KoC), Good Shepherd Council 5573, announced today that the fifth- annual stuff your own scarecrow fundraiser and Bargain Boulevard flea market will be held on Saturday, September 25, from 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM at St. Mary Immaculate Parish KoC clubhouse on 15613 S Rte 59, Plainfield, on the Northwest corner of the church property. The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights are sponsoring a Flea Market. Display tables are available for rent.

"Individuals and families will be able to have some fun by creating your own scarecrow and putting them on display for the harvest season, Halloween and for placement in your garden next year," said Grand Knight Kunst. " Fest activities include children's games, pumpkin-painting, removable tattoos and food for purchase. All supplies will be provided- straw, pants, shirts, shoes and accessories. The cost is only $10.00 per scarecrow and you can't go most places with the family and have some fun for that price."

Flea Market rental tables are available for a non-refundable $10 donation with a $25 clean-up fee that will be returned if the table renter cleans-up their space, for selling various items such as jewelry, crafts, product demonstrations, garage sale items, etc. Contact Judy Arduino, 815-524-5868, or Arlene Kunst, 815-254-7123 for details.

Food will also be available for purchase for those that work up an appetite creating their family scarecrow masterpiece, playing games or shopping the flea market. The menu includes hamburgers, hot dogs, water, pop and sweet treat desserts which will be available for a nominal charge.

Donations of decrepit, tattered, mismatched clothing such as: jeans; slacks; long sleeved shirts and sweaters; mittens; shoes; ties; belts and scarves are being accepted. The donations of old clothing can be dropped off in the commons area of St. Mary's in the container provided.

All donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by Federal and State tax law. All profits from Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary activities are donated back to various charitable organizations. Past recipients have included: St. Mary Immaculate vacation bible school, religious education program, special education program, special projects drive, and other Church and school projects, the greater Plainfield Food Pantry, Deaf Apostolate, Catholic Charities, Joliet Diocesan charities, Special Olympics and support of the Malawi Africa Mission. These are just a few of the many recipients of the funds raised by the council. Fund distributions are made by the Knights of Columbus members of Good Shepherd Council 5573 throughout the year.

Founded in 1964, the Knights, Squires and Ladies Auxiliary of Good Shepherd Council 5573 perform works of service to the community through volunteer activities and charitable donations, supports the worldwide Catholic Church and its teachings.
