Catholic Guide to Studying Scripture Is Indispensable Resource

West Chester, PA (January 19, 2010) - The Bible Compass: A Catholic's Guide to Navigating the Scriptures has quickly become the go-to book for Catholics interested in studying the Bible.

Written by Dr. Edward Sri and released by Ascension Press last fall, The Bible Compass will help Catholics deepen their faith through a greater understanding and appreciation of God's Word. The Bible is a mysterious book, which was composed over the course of several centuries, by many different authors, and in a variety of genres. Drawing from the teachings of the Second Vatican Council and the Catechism of the Catholic Church, The Bible Compass focuses on five specific keys for interpreting Scripture. "These five keys not only help ensure that our reading of the Bible stays on the right track but also serve as lights on our path, illuminating our understanding of the Scriptures so that we can seek Jesus Christ in the sacred texts--or, in the words of Pope Benedict XVI, 'Look for the Word within the words.'"

After discussing the background and keys for interpretation, The Bible Compass then gives readers an understanding of how God's plan for salvation flows through the Scriptures. Using the same twelve historical periods found in The Great Adventure Bible study series, Sri provides readers with a general grasp of the "big picture" of the Bible, giving them a framework for understanding how the drama of God's plan for salvation unfolds.

The Bible Compass serves as a basic handbook for Catholics in their study of Scripture. It addresses all the common questions and topics concerning the Bible, and equips readers with practical guides for reading and interpreting the Sacred Word.
