Missionaries of God's Love (MGLs) Website Launched

RURWOOD, VICTORIA (JULY 2, 2008) - The Missionaries of God's Love (MGL) have a new website at www.mglvocation.org. The MGLs are an Australian-based consecrated group of priests, brothers and sisters dedicated to sharing in the Church's mission of the "new evangelization" initiated by Pope John Paul II and encouraged by Pope Benedict XVI.

The MGLs are radically committed to living the Gospel and they have already had a great deal of success attracting young people to vocations. The MGL Brothers have actually outgrown their Seminary House in Melbourne and have begun an international Building Appeal which will be officially launched by His Grace, Archbishop Denis Hart on Saturday 16th August 2008. The MGLs have a reputation of being loyal to the Church's teaching authority and are attracting candidates who are looking for a solid philosophical and theological formation which is in step with the Magisterium. The MGLs way of life involves taking a radical vow of poverty, celibacy and a vigorous prayer life including adoration of the Blessed Sacrament and developing the gift of contemplation.

Visitors to the website can read about the MGLs' identity and vision as well as learning more about their way of life. Information about the MGL formation process, their mission work, prayers and upcoming events can also be easily found on the website. In his welcome to visitors to the new website as the Moderator of the Missionaries, Father Ken Barker explains that the MGL: "...story displayed in these pages is a testimony to the goodness of God. He takes weak instruments and uses them for his purposes."

Fr Chris Ryan, one of the MGLs, may be familiar to those who have joined in the journey of the World Youth Day (WYD) Cross and Icon on their long voyage to Australia followed by their historic pilgrimage through every diocese in this vast southern land. Fr Chris has spoken to many people, young and old, about these symbols of Christ's love for humanity and their significance not only to the WYD celebrations but in our daily lives. His role in the journey of the WYD Cross and Icon is highlighted in the 'Missions' section on the new website. Many of the MGLs will be participating in the forthcoming WYD events in Sydney. Pilgrims should keep a keen eye out for young men and women dressed simply in white shirts, brown trousers or skirts, brown jumpers and wearing the symbol comprising of a Cross and flame!
