Monterry Pictures Joins the Mexican-American Film Revolution

Six Figure Deal Inked To Write "700 HILL" Script.

NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 23, 2007 --- MONTERREY PICTURES' founder, David Mendez, has inked a six-figure deal with writer Nat Christian to write the screenplay for the producer's first feature film, 700 Hill. Mr. Christian, who will also co-produce, recently wrote, acted in and directed the independent feature, Channels which was just completed earlier this year. "Mr. Christian's passion for 700 Hill has resulted into an extraordinary telling of the narrative, which is inspired by a true story" says Mr. Mendez, who recently turned his sights to Hollywood after an exceptionally successful career in technology, including the sale of a company he co-founded, Supplybase.inc, to i2 Technologies for $380.

700 Hill is a "cross-over" story that will appeal to mainstream audiences. "We're achieving our goal by revealing a classic story of survival in the context of true chapters in the Mexican-American experience". Aware of the rising recognition of Latino content and talent in Hollywood, Mr. Mendez proclaims to be "proud to be part of this modern day Mexican Revolution ... a revolution in film!"

The character-driven narrative is set amidst historic events from turn of the century Mexico to 1940s Appalachia. The story centers on a dispirited Appalachian woman who marries into a newly immigrated Mexican family. As she faces oppression from her family and society, she is tragically widowed, left to support herself and her children at 700 Hill, the mining company housing in the small coalmining town. Her heart-rending story is echoed with that of her husband's father, who as a boy, was orphaned upon the execution of his family during the onset of Mexican Revolution. His lifelong struggle to find a new life leads him to the United States, to 700 Hill. The dual storylines connect in marriage, but more dramatically through themes of oppression, survival, faith and perseverance.

Mr. Mendez and Mr. Christian created the treatment, having completed diligent and extensive research and story development in the past two years. "For an historically-significant piece such as this, perfection is paramount", says Mendez, "and foremost, the exceptional character development that Mr. Christian has painstakingly created in the screenplay is ingenious, yet true to its source".

The script for 700 Hill is near completion, and Monterrey Pictures plans the feature to be in pre-production by the spring of 2008, as Mr. Mendez continues to build the team and collaborative partners in the project. After 700 Hill, Monterrey Pictures will continue to produce meaningful films with budgets in excess of $10 million.
