BCTV Announces Holy Week Schedule Featuring Cardinal Sean O'Malley

Newton, MA--Boston Catholic Television (BCTV) has announced its Holy Week schedule of celebrations with His Eminence, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, OFM, Cap. Cardinal O'Malley is the nation's most recently elevated Catholic Prelate, having received his Cardinal's hat in late March of this year.

Each liturgical service will originate from Boston's Holy Cross Cathedral and will be featured live on BCTV on cable and via internet.

Holy Cross Cathedral in Boston is so named because of the relic of the True Cross present in the Cathedral. That relic, which is attached to the bottom of a two foot crucifix, is used for the adoration Of The Cross during Good Friday Services.

Tuesday April 11th at 11 AM EDT (8:00 AM PDT & 1500 UTC) BCTV will feature Cardinal O'Malley as celebrant of the Chrism mass for the Archdiocese of Boston. This mass, where all the holy oils to be used for the year in the Boston are blessed is also where the priests in the archdiocese renew their vows.

Thursday April 13th at 8:00 pm EDT (5:00 PM PDT & 2400 UTC) BCTV will present the Mass of the Lord's Last Supper. Cardinal O'Malley will wash the feet of twelve members of his congregation and celebrate the institution of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

BCTV will present the Good Friday Liturgy from Boston at 3:00pm EDT (12:00 PM PDT & 1900 UTC). This will feature Cardinal O'Malley as celebrant of the liturgy of the Lord's Passion and the veneration of the Cross including the Relic of the True Cross.

Solemn Liturgy of the Easter Vigil with the traditional blessing of fire and water, will be presented live on Saturday April 15th at 8:30 pm.EDT (5:30pm PDT and 0030 UTC) This joyful liturgy, which includes the sacred rites of initiation for new adult Catholics, also features the full cathedral choir led by Mr. Leo Abbott, music director at the cathedral. Again, Cardinal O'Malley will be the main celebrant.
