NEW YORK, NY (September 26, 2012) - The Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe in Orlando, Florida, USA, receives the first Annual Shrine Award for Outstanding Participation in the Worldpriest Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests on 1st October 2012.
Quote from Fr. Paul Henry upon the Shrine’s reception of the Award for Outstanding Participation in the Global Rosary Relay:
“The mission of the Shrine is worldwide in its scope. It is our joy to embrace God’s people who come from throughout the nation and all over the world for the Eucharist each Sunday and during the week. We are blessed to have a global – “Catholic” – vision of the mission of the Church and our part in it. So we were delighted to be part of the Relay. The Eucharist we celebrated and the rosary we prayed together was so well attended and beautiful. To be recognized for our part in the event makes us humble. But we are overjoyed that the ministry of the Basilica of Mary, Queen of the Universe, was chosen to share in this aspect of Mary’s outreach to the world – the prayerful support of our priests in every nation. It was beautiful.”
Why the Annual Rosary Relay for Priests?
.
On 15th June 2012, the Feast Day of the Sacred Heart, the 3rd Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests was prayed with sixty five shrines throughout the world consecutively praying the Rosary for a twenty-four hour time period. This day of prayer has become the largest day of prayer worldwide on one day, with one prayer, and one purpose- the sanctification of our priests.
A beautiful Rosary Relay card in celebration of the Annual Global Rosary Relay has been developed by the Catholic Loyalty Foundation, a proud sponsor of Worldpriest, and is available online at www.worldpriest.com. This compliments the popular Catholic Identity Card which can also be ordered at the website.
At the Basilica in Florida, the Day of Prayer for Priests was a great success. The number of folks who came to the Shrine that day was surprisingly large- far greater than the number of people one might expect at a Friday noon Mass. All of these people came together at the appointed time in the Relay schedule specifically responding to the Worldpriest call to the world to pray for priests. It was a tremendous success and an example of the love and support the laity feel for the clergy. Hundreds more participated by praying from their homes, offices and home parishes.
Little Flower Ministry had the honor and blessing of capturing the Relay on film and of presenting that film to WorldPriest.
The celebration of the Mass, combined with the Rosary, was beautiful in and of itself. What impressed Father Henry was the following: “What I felt most touched by was the fact that this was a day of prayer for priests throughout the world and that the day was designed so carefully to be not only a rally, but a relay.”
Father Paul then continued: “Here at the Shrine we have a universal aspect to our ministry. We welcome people from all over the world. It gives us a sense of connection to the universal Church, and that is very special. So we were in solidarity with the Church and the priests in every part of the world; we did our part to raise our hearts and minds in intercessory prayer – which has to be so encouraging for all priests.” It certainly was for Father Paul Henry, Rector of the Shrine, and for the group of priests present at the Shrine that day. Father Paul noted: “We spoke about each priest’s vocation, including Fr. John, who was ordained fifty-one years. We talked about how happy we were as priests and how privileged we felt to share the mission of Christ and to be so supported by God’s holy people. It was wonderful!”
Mr. James Diroff, an associate of Worldpriest Inc., will present this beautiful Award to Father Henry on 1st October after the 12:05 Mass on the Feast of Saint Therese of Lisieux, the Patroness of Worldpriest.
Plans are now underway for the 4th Annual Global Rosary Relay for Priests on June 7th 2013- a special date to be remembered when, yet again, the world will be at prayer for our priests.
Perhaps your shrine could be the winner of this wonderful Award in 2013. Think about it and reflect as to how you will participate.
