The Sisters of Bon Secours, an international community of Catholic women religious (sisters) with ministries in healthcare, human and social services, education and spiritual retreats, recently gathered in Dublin Ireland for their mid-term international assembly. Sisters representing the United States, Peru, Ireland, Great Britain, South Africa and France reflected together, visioning their future ministries.
Marriottsville, MD (May 9, 2012) - Members of the Sisters of Bon Secours from all parts of the globe came together for a mid-term international assembly held in Dublin, Ireland from April 14 through April 16, 2012.
One hundred and five members were in attendance, representing sisters from France, Ireland, England, Scotland, Peru, South Africa and the United States. It was a very special time for the sisters in this Holy Season of Easter as they shared their stories in words, images, music and art surrounding their life in ministry in each country they serve in and the fellowship they enjoy with the people God has called them to minister to.
Time was spent in community prayer and thanksgiving for the gifts of their religious life and in discerning together how best to answer God’s call to serve the most pressing needs of today.
When asked to comment on the activity at the assembly, Sister Rose Marie Jasinski, Country Leader for the United States said, “The process of the three days moved us from our current reality, through reflection on the greater world issues through the lens of our Mission Focus Statement and ended with a process looking to the future!”
Sister Patricia Eck, the Congregation Leader for the international congregation of sisters added, “We had a truly marvelous assembly. Everyone participated at the meetings, prayers and gatherings. It was wonderful to all be together and to get to know each other even better!” During the Assembly Sister Pat stressed the need to spread the Good News in each corner of the globe that the sisters serve and to bring God’s word to the people.
The Sisters affirmed their commitment to carry out their Mission directive developed two years ago at an international meeting held every five years to elect congregation leadership and set directives.
About the Sisters of Bon Secours: As an international congregation of Catholic sisters they have long had a heart for providing healthcare, social services and spiritual comfort to disadvantaged communities since their inception in 1824 when they nursed the sick in their homes. Today, their holistic approach to caring for all of creation equips the Sisters of Bon Secours to spread wellness and God’s love throughout the four corners of the world.
