Pope Francis issues warning on immigration
FREE Catholic Classes
Pope Francis has issued a warning to those who think unrestricted immigration is acceptable. His warning comes after his visit to Sweden. During the trip, Pope Francis praised the Swedish policy to welcome immigrants, but he also warned against accepting those who would not assimilate. Many people in Sweden are alarmed that Muslims are infiltrating the country and refusing to change their ways to live in harmony with their neighbors.

LOS ANGELES, CA (California Network) - Sweden is a model for the rest of the world. They have accepted thousands of asylum seekers from the Middle East. Pope Francis has praised their humanitarian kindness. He warned that nations shouldn't "close their hearts" to people in need.
However, he also became aware of the threat that many feel the influx of Muslims poses to the Swedish nation. Some of the Muslim asylum seekers are refusing to assimilate and are instead demanding that their hosts change their laws to accommodate them.
Nations have a right to control their borders. Even Vatican City, which is walled and has a security force that includes police and the Swiss Papal Guard, takes advantage of this right.
Pope Francis spoke about the importance of integrating immigrants.
Integration means welcoming the alien on the one hand, but it also means the alien attempts to assimilate. This is important as Muslims from the Middle East seek, in some cases, to impose Sharia Law on their hosts.
Pope Francis discussed the problem of people who do not integrate. "What is the danger when a refugee or migrant is not integrated? He is ghettoized, that is, he enters a ghetto. And a culture that does not develop in relation with another culture, that is dangerous."
In other words, we need to welcome the refugee, but both the host and the refugee have a responsibility to facilitate integration. The chief responsibility may still be on the host, who should do all they can to prevent ghettoization of the refugees. However, the refugees should appreciate the importance of fitting in and changing their ways for the good of the whole.
This does not mean the alien needs to give up his religion, but he should not expect his hosts to adopt his alien faith or his laws, which is absurd.
In addition, Pope Francis did not advocate the complete opening of borders, and instead warned that nations should only accept those they feel they can assimilate. Accepting too many refugees also leads to ghettoization, as has happened in France and Germany.
