In the haziness of the first Easter morning, Mary Magdalene made her way to tomb of her friend and teacher. Fighting back tears and anger as she pondered the horrible way that Jesus died, Mary went to perform an unusual act of love.

She would anoint his dead body. She worried how she would be able to move the massive stone. But as the tomb appeared, Mary realized that Jesus was gone. Vanished.

She alerted the apostles to the fate of their friend who came to see the tomb firsthand and then quickly left to spread the word. Mary remained in the garden mystified. When the man that she perceived to be the gardener addressed her, Mary did not initially recognize that she was actually speaking to our Lord.

Mary serves as a reminder to us that we often overlook the power of God. Jesus foreshadowed his resurrection, but his disciples assumed that his language was more metaphorical than literal.

Christians live as if the Resurrection of Jesus has very little consequence on our daily living. We trudge through each day worrying about the trite and trivial. We allow the mundane to paralyze us.

Jesus constantly reminded his disciples to focus on "things above rather than things on earth." We seem to ignore the advice of the world's greatest teacher. We dwell on the here and now. Individuals prefer instant gratification rather that wait for the eternal infinite payoff.

This Easter season, we should reflect of the magnitude of the empty tomb and its meaning for us. When the teacher from Nazareth defied death, everything changed. The game of life had new rules. No longer did we have to stare with dread at the finish line of life.

Christ rendered death powerless and gave us new meaning. Live the glory of the empty tomb this Easter season. Allow the exaltation of the Resurrection to permeate every day of your life. Place Easter joy at the center of every moment.
