Longest Running Catholic Podcast Added to Star Quest Production Network
2/21/2007 - 12:00 AM PST

Verbum Domini, the longest running Catholic podcast in the world, has joined the Star Quest Production Network (SQPN.com) on Ash Wednesday, 2007.

Verbum Domini is a short, daily podcast featuring daily Scripture readings of the Roman Catholic liturgical calendar.

A podcast is a free, downloadable audio file saved in MP3 format that can be listened to on computers or portable media devices such as MP3 players, CD players, and iPods.

Originally created by veteran podcaster and voiceover artist Brian Noe, Verbum Domini was launched two years ago on Ash Wednesday 2005 and quickly became one of the most well-known and valued Catholic podcasts on the Internet.

“Verbum Domini is an excellent addition to the SQPN lineup,” says Fr. Roderick Vonhögen, founder of SQPN. “We already offer the daily prayers in our Pray Station Portable podcast, Sunday homilies via Fr. Bill Kessler’s Technopriest podcast, and prayers and praise music with our Prayercast and Catholic Praise Cast podcasts. So adding Verbum Domini’s daily Scripture readings is a perfect fit to our already popular Catholic Spirituality-based shows.”

Since it’s launch, Verbum Domini has attracted thousands of listeners world-wide who now listen to Verbum Domini’s daily Scripture readings in cars, buses, trains, and wherever they may be.

“This is a part of Catholic podcasting history,” says Fr. Vonhögen. “Brian Noe helped set the way for what is possible with Catholic podcasts, so we couldn’t be happier to add Verbum Domini to SQPN.”

The podcast now features multiple lectors presenting the readings from the Revised Standard Edition translation of the Bible.

The volunteer base includes people from many walks of life including a professional photographer, an IT director, by the kids and parents of the Catholic Family Podcast, and even by an expert in the fictitious Klingon language from the popular Star Trek series.

“I’m very excited about the prospects for the program moving forward”, said Brian Noe, the creator and former host of Verbum Domini. “I know that it will be in good hands at SQPN.”
