The New Evangelization Fuels the National Catholic Youth Gathering in Indianapolis
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Based on the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops call to a renewed conversion experience through a journey of Faith-Worship-Witness, called the "New Evangelization," the National Catholic Youth Conference offers a doorway to engage youth in this work and mission of the Church.
WASHINGTON D.C. (November 1, 2013) - On November 21-23 of this year, Indianapolis and Lucas Oil Stadium will welcome 23,000 Catholic teenagers and their chaperones to celebrate and engage in the Church's work and mission of the New Evangelization: Faith-Worship-Witness. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website,(http://www.usccb.org/about/strategic-plan.cfm) "The Year of Faith, as a doorway that engages us in the work of the New Evangelization, is a 'summons to an authentic and renewed conversion to the Lord, the One Savior of the world' (Porta Fidei, 6)."
Based on the USCCB's call to this mission, the National Catholic Youth Conference offers a doorway to engage youth in this work through an intercultural gathering of youth from all over the U.S. 35 U.S. Catholic bishops will participate and join in this event produced and presented by the National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry. “The enthusiasm of our young people at NCYC is a very hopeful experience for all Church leaders, and their commitment to their Catholic faith is a genuine response to the Gospel challenge of being disciples of Jesus Christ,” says Dr. Robert McCarty, executive director of the NFCYM.
This year's conference theme: Signed, Sealed, Delivered, offers a dynamic program of worship and witness through keynotes, workshops, inspirational music, liturgies, and hands on service projects held at the "Inspiration Junction" theme park located in the Indianapolis Convention Center.
With national speaker and artist Jesse Manibusan as this year’s emcee, keynote speakers include Bob Perron of the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston, Jackie Francois of Orange County, California, and Ansel Augustine of the Archdiocese of New Orleans. Top musical performers include internationally known Christian artists, Israel Houghton and Matt Maher, along with top Catholic artists from around the U.S.
80 youth will be involved as animators for the main stage programming. Giving witness to their faith, they will lead song, prayer, dance and gesture movement. Some also have been chosen to witness through presenting a talk and sharing their story.
Live streaming of the main sessions from Lucas Oil Stadium will be provided, especially for parents, and those who cannot attend and want to share in the experience. Information and a link to the live stream can be found at http://www.ncyc.info .
In 2011, NCYC was viewed in 93 countries and received over 65,000 page views.
